The Pros
- The Venue was perfect; considering it was the third edition.
- The Stagecraft was impressive; the lighting, sounds, backdrops, etcetera.
- The presence of the head of the University (VC) was an honour. It was awesome and it served as an endorsement.
- The choice of artists and MC was splendid.
- Overall artist performances were quite satisfactory.
- There was much to eat and drink on the VVIP table. Plus providing a drink for the regular ticket was superb.
The Cons
- The collaboration between SRC and Lumen Entertainment was very poor considering the fact that SRC and Lumen Entertainment signed an agreement in 2016 to design and organize an awards scheme that recognizes and celebrates deserving students and corporate organizations for their contributions to the SRC, students of the university and the country as a whole.
- SRC for the past three years have never received its profit of the partnership.
- The main organizer of the awards always claim he run loses on the awards night (and this include previous years).
- Student ushers and others used on the night have not been paid as at now.
- The Software developer who was contracted to design the online Voting system used have not received payment as at now.
- Only one plaque was designed and used for all award winners at the night, camouflage. Winners are yet to know when their plaques will be given to them.
- African Royal Vanilla Cream Liqueur drank on the night expires on the 19th May 2018.
- There was no launching of the 2018 awards as there has been in the previous years.
- No T-shirts for nominees and SRC executives as done in the previous years.
- No award for best student.
- Richard Mensah of Lynx Entertainment celebrated as man of the moment was needless.
- Maximum respect was not given to the VC of KTU.
- People paid for VVIP tables and never got the chance to sit on them.
- Much was not seen on the theme: EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S LEADERS TODAY
General Observation and Comments
I will want to commend Lumen Entertainment for organizing such a great show; I’m sure the expectations of students were met and having the head of the University (VC) attending was awesome.
But moving forward, I believe a lot can be done. The next SRC needs to revisit the contract between SRC & Lumen entertainment that establishes this award. We were made to believe SRC has never received its share after all the awards nights. Also, the SRC was not spotted performing any major role from the very start to the finishing line of the awards night. Aside that, I assume that, the committee which was formed out of SRC to oversee the opening of nominations, interviewing, vetting of nominees and short listing of nominees; wasn’t given remuneration for their sittings.
They (Next SRC) will need to understand perfectly the role of SRC in this awards and profit sharing margins, etcetera.
And I find it disrespectful and insulting on the part of lumen to have called the Vice-Chancellor up stage to present an award to Richard Mensah and was asked to stay on stage to receive a “common” citation
The current Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Smile Dzisi has been appointed as the fourth Rector of Koforidua Polytechnic then, by her appointment, Professor (Mrs.) Smile Dzisi becomes the first female Rector of a Polytechnic in Ghana, and with the conversion of polytechnics into a Technical Universities, She comes the first female Vice-Chancellor of a Technical University. Her appointments are historic.
Professor (Mrs.) Smile Dzisi is an associate professor of entrepreneurship and innovation, an internationally-acclaimed academician and educationist, a business innovation consultant, and a distinguished public servant.
She joined Koforidua Technical University then (Koforidua Polytechnic) as a lecturer in 1999, Professor (Mrs.) Smile Dzisi rose through the ranks and held numerous managerial positions including Head of Department, Purchasing and Supply; Head of Department, Marketing; Campus Coordinator, Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund [TALIF];
She was also Director of Research and New Programmes; Acting Deputy Registrar [Academic]; Focal Person, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development; Managing Editor, International Journal of Technology and Management Research [IJTMR]; Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Vice Rector of the University then Polytechnic.
Professor (Mrs.) Smile Dzisi has made enormous contributions to curriculum development for polytechnic education in particular and tertiary education in general. For many years, she designed, taught and evaluated management, business, and entrepreneurial courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
She is a member of several internationally recognized professional bodies such as the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM), and Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM).
Professor Dzisi provides consultancy service for the UNFPA, the World Bank, International Needs and some government and private agencies in Ghana. Just to say a few
I felt the Vice-Chancellor should have taken her seat back and properly addressed and recognised “well well” before giving her that citation “if Lumen think she was not good enough” to be celebrated as the woman of the moment on the eve of Mother’s day
Richard Mensah of Lynx Entertainment celebrated as man of the moment, I have no problem with it but considering KTU as an academic institution and for the first time having an endorsement and attendance of the VC and her enormous contributions emulated above, she needed to be celebrated since we celebrate academic excellence.
Enough of these craps, SRC need to wake up and make Lumen understands that their name as Koforidua Technical University (KTU) – Students’ Representative Council (SRC) is bigger than any investment Lumen might have poured into the awards, without KTU SRC, they can’t organise this event. They are just using your name to make money, KTU Staff and Students needs to be given the maximum respect they deserves
