The National Service Scheme (NSS) in fulfilment of a promise made on Ghana Today Television (GTV) on Tuesday has today March 23, 2022, duly paid the 2022 outstanding January allowance of national service personnel nationwide.
“All national service personnel who have filled, endorsed and duly submitted their assessment forms for the month of January 2022 at the various NSS District Offices can access the allowance via E-zwich,” the Scheme said on Wednesday.
In a statement copied to EducationWeb, the National Service said it understands the plight of the personnel regarding the delay in the payment of the allowance but it has put measures in place to clear the February 2022 arrears soon.
“We sincerely regret the delay in the payment of the allowances and highly commend personnel for their continued commitment to duty,” the management of the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) said in the press release.
Mr Armstrong Essah, the spokesman for the Service speaking on the GTV Breakfast show on Tuesday said his outfit is in consultation with relevant stakeholders to increase the monthly allowance of national service personnel.
Madam Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy Executive Director (General Services) of NSS last year in a discussion monitored by EducationWeb disclosed the central government has approved the increment of allowance.
“We are planning to increase the allowance of the service personnel in the coming year because NSS personnel are paid through the government coffers, so maybe in the next coming year we could increase the allowance,” Gifty said.
She added “they are paid monthly allowances determined by the Finance Ministry. Payment is calculated from the date the personnel reports for duty at his/her designated post. The allowance is paid throughout the service year.”
The NSS official comment comes after the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) petitioned her outfit to increase the national service personnel allowance amid the high cost of living as a result of the impact of Covid-19.
