Indeed, Ghana is in a dire need of all what Nana Addo and his party promised prior to the 2016 general election but taken a keen look at the record of his regime, it would be near delusional to hope for meaningful change if Ghanaians are to re-elect Him and the NPP Party.
We live in a country where deceptiveness has become the mantra of Nana Addo’s administration and the NPP as a whole.
In the heat of 2016 electioneering period NPP through Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, then running mate “deceived” the very good people of Ghana, by telling us the then erstwhile Mahama’s administration has increased the country’s debt stock as a result of reckless borrowing, for that reason ghanaians were made to believe that borrowing was a lazy man’s approach because Ghana has a lot of resources which can be relied on, so borrowing shouldn’t be a priority. What do we see today?
Since the inception of this government, the rate of borrowing is going exceedingly, this clearly connotes the fact that words are not deeds.
The erstwhile Mahama’s administration have a lot to show and justify the monies borrowed during its tenure of office from January 2009 to January 2017 but its the contrary in the case of this government as neither the President nor any government official can justify the achievement of monumental projects that has been undertaken by this government since it took over and that alone can’t be justifiable to their borrowings.
Talking of the Eastern Region where the sitting President comes from has been stifled of development despite its huge contribution to our national growth.
We at Save Ghana Now by this medium demand from government, a specific developmental/monumental projects he’s accomplished within the remit of the borrowed 80 billion.
According to the Monetary Policy Committee report which was released just this month, clearly states that, Ghana’s debt is now pegged at almost 200 billion which depict a difference of 80 billion from the debt level as at the time President Akufo Addo took over the seat of government, which was 120 billion as at January 7th 2017.
His predecessor been President Mahama borrowed 47 billion in a space of four years of the 120 billion reported as at January 7th 2017 but was able to embark on monumental project in Eastern Region that spell development and growth in economic activities. We at Save Ghana Now can Chronicle projects within the Eastern Region as follows:
EDUCATION
Construction of 10 community day secondary schools of which 4 of them were completed and the rest being at various stages of completion.
A tertiary institution being the university of environmental and sustainable development located in Somanya, Bunso and Donkorkrom.
Construction of an ultra modern engineering block facility at the koforidua technical university.
Expansion of various dormitories, dining halls, science and ICT laboratories among many others
HEALTH
The construction of 98 chip compounds across the region among them is the Abrewa Nkwantah and Oyoko CHPS compound all in koforidua.
Secondary health facilities were also put up namely the Abetifi and Somanya district hospitals.
WATER
Construction of the kyebi, kwahu,Nsawam, Akwatia, Osenase,Oda, Kpong water projects et al.
ROADS
We also witnessed the construction and upgrading of our roads particularly cocoa areas and also the asphalting of some selected roads namely Koforidua town roads,Somanya-Odumase, Nkawkaw Atibie et al.
New Patons was also deployed to Agodeke in the Afram Plains North district.
ELECTRICITY
There was also rapid expansion of rural electrification in some selected districts namely Yilo, lower, Upper Manya, Ofoase, Abirem, Okere, Adeiso, Denkyembour, Fanteakwa district et al.
Time may not permit us to list all the projects but the fundamental key thematic question we are asking is:
Can the President point a number of projects or programs that has benefited the good people of Eastern Region out of this 80 billion borrowed in just a space of three years?
