Hailed the president of the concerned students of KTU, Efo Qweku Apedzego, who is known for being loud on the poor state of lightening on campus has written an open letter to the SRC.
In a letter which was mailed to Ktuinsider.com, ‘Efo Streetlight’ hinted on some of the reasons why the sponsorship committees that the school has seen over the period has underperformed.
He captured in his letter that the low performance of the sponsorship committee is as a result of the bad electoral system that we have harboured over the period.
“After several consultations and analysis, I’m convinced that, for these past years, the problem mainly isn’t about the appointees, though one will argue that some of the appointees are incompetent, of which is a genuine concern but I strongly believed that, our Electoral System is main “devil in disguise”, creating this mess. It seems we are losing sight of this disaster.”
He asked several questions which according to him are unconstitutional practices but have been condoned and become a tradition – unfortunately.
He advised that the current administration takes a turn and make things right for the progress of the student body and the institution at large.

AN OPEN LETTER TO KTU SRC
Why our “Sponsorship committee” under various administration has been a white Elephant portfolio.
Over the years, our SRC sponsorship committee has been one of the fruitless committee under every administration. But the sad part is, yearly, these committee’s members are being “catered for” under the financial umbrella of SRC, though they have not been operational with respect to their core mandate of establishment.
As a student, who wishes to see a very strong SRC with a strong financial muscle, I’m worried why none of the administrations have been able to identify “why our sponsorships committees under various administration have not been able to achieve it aim or the purpose of setting up such a committee”.
For these past few days, I have been asking myself, the how’s, why’s, etc. why such a great institution like our own Koforidua Technical University, it’s SRC can’t even secure sponsorship for its programs.
After several consultations and analysis, I’m convinced that, for these past years, the problem mainly isn’t about the appointees, though one will argue that some of the appointees are incompetent, of which is a genuine concern but I strongly believed that, our Electoral System is main “devil in disguise”, creating this mess. It seems we are losing sight of this disaster.
Why am I putting the poor functioning of our sponsorship committees under various administrations on our Electoral system?
Now, let’s ask ourselves; When do we always have our elections? When do we handover power?
When do the new administration start constituting its machineries?
Hmm, our elections always come off during few days to vacation while handing over comes off during vacation, isn’t this interesting?
Companies, institutions always prepare their annual budget at the beginning of the year, this includes their sponsorship plans and in the mid of the year, there’s also some operational meetings on other programs budgets including sponsorships, now ;
When do our new administrations becomes effective after assuming powers? When does the president constitute his machineries? When does the General Assembly sworn the committee members in?
Mostly they become operational after most companies , organizations, etc are done with their mid year operational plans. So you see, these sponsorship committee can not secure any sponsorship no matter how good they can draft their sponsorship letters because, the companies have already planned, defended their budget and schedule their activities. Yes, one will argue that, if you can not secure sponsorship for your first term in office, what about your second term, yes, is a legitimate question, but let’s be real here, when does the SRC organized it’s biggest programs?.. All these programs are mostly organized during their first term in office, so it will be easy securing sponsorship for such lucrative programs rather than less patronized programs.
Going forward, it will be prudent that our Electoral system reschedule how they run their activities so that we can have our executives elected as early as possible. This will help them to have ample time to institute their various committees while school is still in session.
In conclusion, if this current administration is able to handover in the first week in the month of April, the newly elected administration can constitute a sponsorship board , thay can secure sponsorship in the “mid calendar” of the various companies which will help ease the pressure on SRC’s internally generated funds.
Thank You
