Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency in Ashanti Region, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has increased beneficiaries of his engineering scholarship from 30 to 60 brilliant students effective 2022.
The scholarship mainly for students in the Bosomtwe Constituency who had sat and passed WASSCE is to enable them to pursue Engineering courses at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) in Tarkwa.
Speaking to the first batch beneficiaries of the engineering scholarship, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said recruitment for the second batch would begin by the end of May 2021, adding that only qualified graduates will be selected.
According to the politician, he is on a mission to train approximately 150 engineers in the Bosomtwe constituency in the next 10 years, a move he has said forms part of his broader plans to grow education in the country.
In a form of advice, the Minister of Education urged the sponsored Bosomtwe constituency students to make good use of the opportunity and study hard to justify the investment made in them.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. Keep on doing well for it is a real opportunity to impact future generations. Your future is in your hands,” the Member of Parliament told the future engineers.
“I want to make Bosomtwe to stand out and be the best District in terms of human capital development. I will support you to succeed for others to emulate your achievements,” the Teaching Minister added.
He also announced that four acres of land had been acquired at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Tarkwa for the construction of hostel facilities for beneficiaries of the engineering scholarship.
