Many ladies have come to grace the soil of KTU without making any impact or leaving much or anything at all to talk about. This unfortunate incident can be attributed to the lack of good leadership and guidance.
It seems only like yesterday when I gained admission in this noble university then polytechnic. The early days of my arrival were very cumbersome due to my lack of knowledge with respect to the university system as far as the dressing of our dear ladies is concern.
I fortunately joined some female friends whom I call my school mothers because they were tutoring me when it comes to matters arising on campus especially with that of the ladies. During my study, I came across some kind of girls they claim to be LADIES but in my scope, they can’t be categorised or classified as such. The exhibition of their mode of dressing has compelled me to pen down the knowledge I have gathered and share with the entire student populace especially the ladies to help emancipate them from mental slavery.
Being a WOMAN does not automatically make one a LADY as “CANDACE SIMPSON-GILES” made mention in one of her books. The term Lady has evolved to mean many new and different things over the past 100 years. MANNERS, ATTITUDES, APPROPRIATE DRESSING are the main factors I would like to talk about because these slated factors have changed so dramatically that our grandmother’s definition of being a Lady hardly resembles today’s expectations. I would like to talk about the Appropriate Dressing for now and continue with the rest in the subsequent days coming.
CANDACE SIMPSON-GILES made an accession that “White gloves and Hats are not as much a part of our standard as they were for the women of earlier generation”. This connote the fact that, the rapid evolution of the modern woman over the last century has brought with it both confusion and fulfillment.
A LADY by today’s definition knows that educating herself in every way possible from higher education to the common sense manners empowers her to become a woman of accomplishment and poise. She knows that it is not the dress size she wears or the money she possesses that brings her satisfaction in life. A lady knows that Beauty and Wealth can be fleeting, but her inner character is the measure by which others will ultimately judge her as a person. Her courtesies, the high esteem in which she holds herself and others and her sincere words of praise and thoughtfulness will reflect her strong values and place her ahead in the minds and hearts of those who know her.
Being thought of as a “LADY” may be the one of the highest compliments as a woman can receive in Life.
TO BE A LADY, YOU NEED TO;
- Protect yourself.
- Do not wear cloths so revealing that they embrace others.
- Wear a camisole if your blouse or dress is sheer enough to reveal the details of your bra or cleavage.
- Never adjust your bra or bustling within the view of other people.
- Never let your bra straps show unless they were meant to show.
A Lady is always on her toes, realizing that every encounter makes a lasting impression. My colleague ladies of KTU, let’s all try to show others how to live life with grace, selflessness and great style as far as appropriate dressing on campus is concern. Our footprints are forever within this soil of KTU so let’s guide and inspire others on how to be a Lady in life.
