The Directorate of Research and Innovation, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development and the Business Development Koforidua Technical University presents the VC’s Innovation And Entrepreneurship which seeks to award the best entrepreneurial student with the outstanding product proposal and presentation skill with the touch of feasibility.
The final presentation which saw eight (8) registered teams of which one team was kicked out in the first stage, and on the second stage three (3) out of seven (7) was also kicked out. The grand finale was battled by five (5) teams at the Aba Bentil Andam Theatre at Koforidua Technical University on July 30, 2019.
This scaled-down till Tech Leads was adjourned winner for the 1st Vice Chancellor’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge after presenting on a business idea for Smart Energy Saver. Tech Leads came first with 83 points over 125 as declared by the jury. They were awarded five thousand cedis funding and idea incubation at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development at Koforidua Technical University.
Smart Energy Saver is an IoT powered device which uses the presence of people to control the electrical appliances in a room, measures and displays the electricity consumption per given time for the user.
This project was built to solve electricity problems in Ghana by reducing usage cost by 30% and allowing the user to know the amount of electricity used.
About Tech Leads
Tech Leads is a social enterprise which educates to effect change through STEM by teaching the latest technologies in Programming, Electronics, Robotics and Internet of Things in Ghana.
Tech Leads was founded by Joshua Kumi in September 2016 at Koforidua Technical University then in his first year studying Computer Science in the noble institution.
He set up Tech Leads to train students to bridge the gap between theoretical education system where students learn, pass and forget without understanding practically what they learn to apply the knowledge in solving problems with technology.
Tech Leads has trained over 500 students in Koforidua Technical University in the past 3 years in Web Development, Electronics and Internet of Things.
We have achieved several accolades in Ghana and abroad.
- Tech Leads was the first organization to partner with the Global Code to bring the world’s best software engineers from the United Kingdom every summer to teach the best software engineering practices to Ghanaian students for free.
- One of Tech Leads Project; IoT Prenatal Care System won funding to pitch the project and Tech Leads at BrainHack Zurich in Switzerland in October 2018.
- Tech Leads was in the finals of Ghana Youth Social Entrepreneurship Program in August 2018
- Tech Leads won the first place in the 1st VCs Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge at Koforidua Technical University with our Smart Energy Saver.

About Joshua Kumi
Joshua Kumi is a young Ghanaian entrepreneur who’s a product of Koforidua Technical University with a Computer Science background. He’s an African German Entrepreneurship Academy Fellow and the Founder and Director of Tech Leads. He believes that the only way to end poverty and unemployment in Africa is by creating wealth through sustainable businesses, that is why he is passionate about innovations and entrepreneurship to change the world.
