Omanhene for Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsiah V has commended government for taking a decentralized approach with the awarding of government scholarships to Ghanaian students who are seeking or pursuing advance studies at the tertiary level in the country.
Nana Kobina Nketsiah V in his remarks at the National Launch of the District Level Scholarship Scheme, on the theme “Blueprint to free meritorious tertiary education in Ghana” in Takoradi this morning stressed that the initiative would ward off the endemic and ethnically selective tendencies with the award of scholarships.
“…in this 4th Republic is the over colorization of our politics… and that you have to apply to Accra. And that someone out there is going to decide who gets the scholarship. You will not talk. The loyalty, the feeling and wanting to belong to Ghana goes away. You may even begin to think that Ghana belongs to some ethnic groups. How do you fight your own? How do you own?”, he cried.
He believed awarding students purely on meritocracy is the right way to go.
“So I think this is one of the healthiest development in our country. This is the Ghana we want. The Ghana where the best will always have the chance in building this nation” Nana Kobina Nketsiah V emphasized.
