Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North Constituency through the Ghana Education Service donated 3 brand new motorbikes to 3 hardworking, committed and dedicated teachers in the Kwahu Afram Plains North district in the Eastern Region.
In a short ceremony attended by Hon. Samuel Ohene Kena(District Chief Executive), Mrs Ivy Asantewaa Mensah(District Director of Education) and Heads of all sector units of the Ghana education services, the MP handed over these Motorbikes to the 3teachers.
Addressing the gathering Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah indicated that a tour of the constituency has revealed that out of 573 communities in the constituency there are only 130Schools available for teaching and learning to take place.
Even the available 130schools have inadequate teachers to manage them, a situation which has left many brilliant kids across the constituency lack quality education.
She stated it’s her desire and passion to bring quality education to the door step of every child in the constituency, hence her decision to build pavilions where it is needed and so far 15Pavilions are at various stages of completion across the constituency.
While pursuing this vision, she has since 2017 supported about 50 students in their tertiary education which includes those in Colleges of Education with the hope that they will all accept postings to Afram Plains after completion.
As a motivation to teachers in her constituency and also lure more teachers to Afram Plains she has decided to institute an Award Scheme for Hardworking Teachers every year.
Today’s handing over marks the beginning of this award scheme and she hopes it yield the necessary result for subsequent ones to be organized.
The Motorbikes were given to following teachers;
Mr. Alex Dabah-Digya island
Mr. Agbordzor Francis-Dwarf Island
Mr. Agbadzanyi Peter-Inland
The District Director of Education, Mrs Ivy Mensah applauded the Member of Parliament for the kind gesture.
She added that when teachers are motivated and adequately resourced they really work extra hard to achieve results.
She praised the Member of Parliament for being a woman of her words and used the occasion to appeal for more of such support to help motivate teachers in the constituency.
