This is the most interesting Easter i have lived to witness on campus and comparatively i can say that the story and moral lesson behind Easter teaches us a lot as students.
From the arrest of Christ, to choosing between Barnabas and Christ, to the crucifixion, death and resurrection of our savior – this is a case study to us as students and everyone who celebrates alongside that there is hope.
I rejoice with all students, especially our Christian brethren on the glorious occasion of the celebration of Easter 2019.
Easter is the most important feast in the Christian calendar and represents God’s redemptive mission over humanity, the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair and good over evil.
The Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ is also a time to emulate the virtues of love, sacrifice, forgiveness, humility, courage and endurance, which Christ embodied and remarkably demonstrated during His earthly ministry.
Let us use this auspicious season to show love to our neighbours, and cater to the needs of the less-privileged in our midst.
Our SRC is currently in a state that needs all hands to help it redeem it image effortlessly as we’ve seen our predecessors do more but not enough, day-in-day-out, we grief and worry about it state.
This should not be. We must reinforce the bond of brotherhood and good neighbourliness that members of the council must share. We must not allow the few bad elements in the council to put asunder our communal tendencies and chords of unity to promote it image.
I know from my regular interactions with colleague students, executives, past-executives and co-aspirants caught up in the unfortunate , that we are all united against the bad image.
The coming administration we believe will do all it takes to adequately equip and motivate ourselves to successfully confront what is causing our shortcomings as a council. We will not allow merchants of evil, greed and unpreparedness consume us. I believe, the council will triumph over them.
On this holy occasion, I enjoin all students to intensify prayers for prosperity to return to the council as we celebrate. I also urge you not to lose hope of a brighter and greater future for the SRC when we do the right things in love. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
I do not take the import of the coming election for granted, especially the expectations of majority of Students towards serving in their interest and seeing to it that our promises be fulfilled.
The obligation of the future administration as we prepare to take governance of the council to the Next Level, is to continue to provide dedicated and honest leadership, where every student irrespective of religion or ethnic origin, class, department, certification, and level feels happy, invest in us and prosper; where council executives are accountable; and all who go contrary to the constitution are held accountable.
Once more, I wish all celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a Happy Easter.
