Registration of JHS 3 students for the 2021 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will end Friday, June 11, 2021, in the Ashanti Region, the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
The deadline comes after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) reported to the GES some schools have not registered any student for the impending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scheduled for later 2021.
GES following the delay in a statement to the Ashanti region Education Director and copied to EducationWeb.com.gh said “all heads of basic schools by the close of Friday, are to register all final year JHS students for the 2021 BECE.”
“You are requested to liaise with the authorities of the schools involved to ensure that all eligible candidates are registered by the close of work on Friday, June 11, 2021,” the release to the Education Director added.
It continued that “the Management of affected schools should note that the Ghana Education Service (GES) will not be in a position to facilitate any further registration exercise after the June 11, 2021 deadline.”
Heads of the public schools involved the Ghana Education Service (GES) said are to be made to offer written explanations as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for such gross dereliction of duty.
A stakeholder in the private education sector has attributed the delay of the JHS 3 students registered for the 2021 BECE in the Ashanti Region as a result of the impact of the novel global coronavirus pandemic on the private schools.
