Many customers of Gold Dealership firm, Menzgold have joined queues at validation centers in Kumasi for validation and verification.
The company scheduled October 28 to November 28 as the period for the exercise which will take place at designated venues in four regions, namely: Greater Accra, Central, Ashanti, and Western.
The anxious customers are presenting their claims and requesting for documents to enable them go through the process.
Some of them who spoke to Citi News said:
“I’m worried because of my family and everyone else. We’re all suffering. We’ve been here since morning and we’re still here. We’re worried. My required documents are here. My photocopied documents, ID cards, and every other thing is here with me,” a gentleman said.
Another customer also said: “I took my documents and voters’ ID with me. Afterward, you I’ll be allowed to write my name and Menzgold number, that’s all. I think they are doing the validation because they want to pay the money because they haven’t done this before.”
Management of Menzgold Ghana Limited had assured customers of paying back their locked up cash in December after the validation exercise.
This followed calls by the customers asking the management of the company to convene a meeting for a schedule to be agreed upon by both parties for the payment of their monies.
Spokesperson for the customers, Fredrick Forson said that they had to meet to address all the paperwork issues to ensure that the December 2019 timeline for payment is met.
“We are expecting them to have a meeting with us this month where we will discuss the payment plan, the form and structure of the payment plan. And when that discussion is done and agreement reached, they can sum up a date for payment,” he said.
The management of Menzgold has said that it is committed to meeting its payment obligation to its aggrieved customers after several months of its failure to do so.
