Nursing College Tutors, students victimized over “Mahama we are sorry” chant –NDC
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is claiming tutors are students of the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery College are being victimized over “Mahama we are sorry” chant.
The students stormed the rally grounds at Nalerigu on day-two of former President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ of the North East Region, clad in their school uniforms and NDC paraphernalia to “beg” the NDC flagbearer to come back to power.
A statement issued by the North East Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Imoro Abdul-Razak claims the Principal and some support staff have since been summoned to Accra over the development.
“News of the Principal of the college and two other tutors being called to Accra to answer, for allowing the students onto the streets to wave at the Former President is unacceptable and condemnable”, he said.

We became even more appalled, when we saw a statement purported to have been coming from management of the institution, dissociating themselves from the apology of the Nursing Trainees to President Mahama.
First of all, we believe this is an unholy and mysteriously procured statement attributed to no individual from the institution.
Secondly, the students who were considered matured enough to make a voting decisions for deceptive Akufo Addo, are today not considered qualified to exercise the same right without recourse to any Tutor, Principal or ‘management’? Is that what President Akufo Addo and his assigns are saying? Not only do we consider this action of the government as intolerant, but we also consider it as a wicked ploy to perpetuate fear among the authorities of such institutions and their students.
We readily recall how the then Candidate Akufo Addo and Bawumia misled all these students’ in 2016 to the extent of making them drop T-shirts of President Mahama on the floor and trampling on it.
We can understand the unsettlement and confusion of the NPP, following the successful conduct of the tour of the NDC Flagbearer, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama in the region, but we cannot accept any form of intimidation or threat on any citizen who came out to voluntarily express his/her abhorrence of Akufo Addo/Bawumia’s corrupt, incompetent, clueless and nepotistic government.
News of the Principal of the college and two other tutors being called to Accra to answer, for allowing the students onto the streets to wave at the Former President is unacceptable and condemnable.
This kind of shameless intimidation was not visited on any official of Dambai College of Education on March 16th, 2016, when Dr Bawumia, then Running mate visited the school on his campaign. In fact candidate Akufo Addo himself took his campaign to Bolgatanga Secondary School on the 14th of August 2019, and not even a fly flew in the face of the Candidate Akufo Addo, not to mention the staff and students of the school.
Indeed, President Akufo Addo has made mockery of his over hyped human rights activist attribute, given to him by their assigns in the media, even to the disbelief of same media men. For the shameless whatsapp group messages generated from the Fake News hub at the flagstaff house, the least said about it the better.
In conclusion, we are by this medium calling on the President to stop with immediate effect, any move to punish any official or student of the said institution and channel any such energy and resource into fixing the numerous security, corruption, and socio-economic problems begging for his attention.
